Schools Drop Michelle Obama’s Expensive Lunch Plan Because Students Hate It
The Obamas have made attempts to control almost every aspect of how we live. Recently, First Lady Michelle Obama released a “preferred lunch plan.” This is where, in all her wisdom, she tells public schools what our kids should be eating to stay healthy.
Apparently, schoolchildren hate her lunch plan.
That’s why the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake school district in New York dropped the menu. They say too many of their students went hungry.
Chris Abdoo, Assistant Superintendent, said, “[Food service manager Nicky] Boehm and her staff worked hard to implement the new regulations, but there were just too many problems and too many foods that students did not like and would not purchase. Students complained of being hungry with these lunches and the district lost money.”
To replace Michelle Obama’s menu, the school created their own.
Trying out Obama’s lunch plan wasn’t cheap — it cost the district $100,000 to implement.
It is easy to understand why kids went hungry. The menu offered scant lunches, including a mere “part” of a chicken patty on a tiny piece of bread.
Nicky Boehm, the district’s Food Service Manager, said, “Students felt they weren’t getting good value for their money. The high schoolers especially complained the portion sizes were too small and many more students brought in lunch from home.”
The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake school district is only one of many districts to ditch Michelle’s lunch plan. Schools in Catlin, Illinois said the plan was “too restrictive,” which is why they dropped it.
The US Department of Agriculture, which manages the program, says Michelle’s lunch program would cost $3.2 billion to implement around the country. That’s a lot of dough for some little chicken patties.
