White House Says Obama’s $100 Million Vacation To Africa Is A “Great Bang For Our Buck”
As we reported earlier this week, the Obamas’ upcoming trip to Africa will cost us, the taxpayers, $100 million.
After receiving questions about the sky-high vacation costs, the White House defended the expenses, claiming it is a “great bang for our buck.”
Deputy national security advisor Ben Rhodes said, “Frankly, there will be a great bang for our buck for being in Africa, because when you travel to regions like Africa that don’t get a lot of presidential attention, you can have very long-standing and long-running impact from the visit.”
He continued, “You’ve got some of the fastest growing economies in Africa. You’ve got a massively growing youth population. You’ve got key security and counterterrorism issues that we work on with African countries.”
President Obama will have a fully staffed medical trauma center at his fingertips during the trip, on a US aircraft carrier that will be sent to the region. He will also need dozens of support vehicles and hundreds of security personnel while in Africa.
Also on the $100 million receipt: military cargo planes, lifting 56 support vehicles into the air. This includes 14 limousines (gotta travel in style!) and trucks fully packed with sheets of bullet proof glass, to cover windows of the first family’s hotels.
Fighter jets will be flying in shifts giving the family 24-hour security. From airspace, they will be able to intervene if a threatening plane gets too close.
The Obamas will travel to Senegal, South Africa, and Tanzania during their extended trip.
Obama has been heavily criticized for his frequent vacations. During his first term, for example, the president spent a million tax dollars on one “date night” with First Lady Michelle in New York City. The couple had dinner, took a walk, and saw a Broadway show.
And of course, we all know Obama loves to disappear to Martha’s Vineyard for relaxation and golf.
Bottom line: the costs of the Africa trip are massive. Government spending continues out-of-control, irresponsible, and un-checked.
